Japan PM Shinzo Abe in Ahmedabad for India-Japan Annual Summit
Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed his Japanese counterpart Shizo Abe at Ahmedabad in Gujrat. Mr. Abe is in India on a two-day visit to attend 12th India-Japan annual Summit.
The two leaders will review the recent progress in the multifaceted co-operation between India and Japan under the framework of their ‘Special Strategic and Global Partnership’. They will also attend a function to mark the commencement of work of India’s first high-speed rail project between Ahmedabad and Mumbai.
Airtel, SK Telecom Joins Hands to build 5G Network in India
India leading telecom operator Bharti Airtel announced a strategi partnership with South Korean telecom operator SK telecom to build most advanced 5G network and and advanced technologies like network functions virtualisation (NFV), software-defined networking (SDN) and Internet of Things (IoT).
“This partnership will bring a dramatically improved experience to Airtel customers in India by leveraging the expertise of a company that has built one of the best mobile broadband networks in the world,” Bharti Airtel Chairman Sunil Bharti Mittal said.
UN Security Council Steps Up Sanctions Against North Korea
The United Nations Security Council unanimously stepped up sanctions over North Korea. The Sanctions are imposed due to North Korea’s sixth and most powerful nuclear test on September 3. It was the ninth sanctions against North Korea since 2006.
The latest sections include, a ban on the country’s textile exports and capping imports of crude oil. It also taken measures to limit North Korean from working overseas.
Apple Launches iPhone X
Apple CEO Tim Cook launched iPhone 8 (iPhone X) and iPhone 8 plis, the latest devices from the world’s best smartphone maker. The all glass iPhone X has an bezel less edge to edge display. The two devices have 4.7 and 5.5 inches respectively, no home button and can be charged wirelessly. It goes on sale starting at $999 on October 27, and it ships November 3.
Apple also unveiled a 4K version of its set-top Apple TV box at the event. Apple is celebrating 10th anniversary of its flagship device iPhone launch.
Six-month cooling period for granting divorce can be waived: SC
The Supreme Court stated that the minimum cooling period of six months for granting the decree of divorce under the Hindu law can be waived, if there is no possibility of reunitation of the couple. The waiving off can be considered if the parties had already lived separately for at least one year and genuinely settled differences relating to alimony, custody of child or any other pending issues between them. .
Centre hikes dearness allowance by 1%
The Central government today increased Dearness Allowwance (DA) and Dearness relief by 1% from the existing four percent. The decision will benefit to 50 lakh employees and 61 lakh pensioners.
The decision was taken by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Union Cabinet meeting. “Release of additional installment of DA is an increase of 1 per cent over the existing rate of 4 per cent of the basic pay/pension, to compensate for price rise,” according to an official statement.
India, Belarus Sign 10 Pacts To Expand Cooperation
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Belarus President Lukashenko signed 10 pacts to expand cooperation in various areas and agreed to explore joint development and manufature of military platforms.
PM Modi and President Lukashenko also agreed to focus on ramping up economic engagement between the two countries, during their extensive talks.
“We will encourage joint development and manufacturing in defence sector under the ‘Make in India’ programme,” Prime Minister Modi said in to media.
Mother Dairy, Maharashtra GovtTie up For Processing Plant
The Maharashtra Government and Mother Dairy Fruit and Vegetable Pvt. Ltd, a subsidiary of National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) have inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to set up a state-of-the-art milk and milk products processing plant.
The MoU aims at dairy development in Vidarbha and Marathwada regions to provide access to milk producers to markets in Nagpur and Mumbai.
Nirmala Sitharaman, Piyush Goyal, Dharmendra Pradhan Join Key Cabinet Committees
Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal and Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan have become members of key cabinet committees reconstituted after the September 3 reshuffle.
The other members are Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj. Minister of State for Urban Development with independent charge Hardeep Singh Puri has also become part of the cabinet committee on accommodation.
Sumit Nagal Wins ITF Futures Tournament
Sumit Nagal of India defeated Colin van Beem of the Netherlands 6-3, 6-0 in the singles final to justify the top billing in the 8th MCC – S R Subramaniam Memorial ITF Futures Men’s tennis championship in Chennai.
He conceded only nine points while winning the next nine games in a row to win the match. Nagal received USD 2,160 and 18 ITF points for the win while van Beem received USD.1272 AND 12 ITF points.
First Lifetime Achievement Award to Prakash Padukone
The renowned Indian Badmiton legend Prakash Padukone has been selected for the first life time award by Badminton Association of India (BAI) for his lifelong contribution to Badminton.
The award holds a cash prize of Rs 10 lakhs with a citation which will be presented to him in New Delhi. Padukone had won the 1980 All England, besides bagging a bronze at the 1983 World Championship in Copenhagen.
Force Motors Chief Abhay Firodia Becomes SIAM President
Force Motors Chairman Abhay Firodia has been elected as the new president of the automobile industry body Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).
Mahindra & Mahindra’s President Automative sector Rajan Wadhera has been elected as the vice-president of the SIAM. Firodia headed the organisation in 1900-91 and 1991-92 as well.
HDFC Bank Becomes 2nd Most Valuable Company on BSE
Shares of HDFC Bank gained 0.93 per cent to Rs. 1,840 (its 52-week high) on the BSE.
Reliance Industries Ltd is the country’s most valued firm with a market cap of Rs. 5,33,818.72 crore followed by HDFC Bank and TCS in top three list.
