Ahmedabad gets India’s First World Heritage City Certificate by UNESCO
UNESCO formally accorded Ahmedabad as India’s First World Heritage City certificate. UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova handed over the certificate to Gujrat’s Chief Minister Vijay Rupani in Gandhinagar declaring Ahmedabad as a ‘World Heritage City.
In July, the UN agency had inscribed Ahmedabad as India’s first World Heritage City at a meeting held in Poland.
US President Nominates Kenneth Juster as US Ambassador to India
United States President Donald Trumph announced Kenneth I juster, as the US ambassador to India. Mr. Juster is a top economic aide an expert on India.
Juster, who is the Deputy Assistant to the US president for International Economic Affairs and Deputy Director of his National Economic Council, would replace Richard Verma if nominated and confirmed by the Senate.
The Ambassador post has been vacant since January 20 when Trump was sworn in as the 45th President of the US.

The President of United States, Donald Trump announced that he plans to appoint Jmaes Bridenstine to head of the apex US space agency NASA. Mr. Bridenstine is a former navy pilot and Republican congressman,
Serena Williams Gives Birth To A Baby Girl
US tennis star Serena Williams, winner of 23 Grand Slam singles titles earned her first mom title on Friday. According to a report she gave birth to a baby girl at a florida HOspital. This is Williams’s and fiance Alexis Ohanian’s first child. Both mother and baby are said to be healthy.
Rajiv Mehrishi : New CAG of India
The outgoing Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi was appointed Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG). Mr. Mehrishi completed his two-year stint as Home Secretary and handed over the charge to Rajiv Gauba.
PM Modi to Visit China And Myanmar
Indian Prime Ministe Narendra Modi will attend the 9th BRICS summit to be held in China from September 3 to 5, 2017 in Xiamen Province. PM Modi will engage in several meetings with BRICS leaders Brazil’s president Michel Temer, Russian President Vladimir Putin, South African President Jacob Zuma and Chinese President Xi Jinping at the event.
Subsequently, the Prime Minister will pay a State visit to Myanmar from September 5th to 7th.This will be Prime Minister Modi’s first bilateral State visit to Myanmar.
Last year, BRICS summit was held in Goa, India.
Sunil Arora Appointed as New Election Commissioner
The President Kovind appointed Shri Sunil Arora, Former IAS as the Chief Election Commissioner in the Election Commission with effect from the date he assumes the office.
There was a vacancy in the poll panel after the retirement of After Nasim Zaidi in July. Achal Kumar Joti is the Chief Election Commissioner of India and Om Prakash Rawat is the other Election Commissioner.
Ministry of Railways Signs two MoU with Swiss Confederation
On the ongoing three day visit of president of the Swiss Confederation, Mrs Doris Leuthard to India, signed two Memorandum of Understandings (MoU) with Ministry of Railways.
First MoU :
The First MoU, signed among Ministry of Railways and Federal Department of the Environment, Transport and Communication of the Swiss Confederation for technical cooperation in Rail Sector. The MoU aims at Co-operation in the areas of :
- Traction Rolling stock
- EMU and Train sets
- Traction Propulsion Equipments
- Freight and Passenger Cars
- Train scheduling and operation improvement
- Railway Station modernization
Second MoU :
The second MoU is between Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL) and Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich.
Second MoU will help Konkan Railway in establishing the George Fernandes Institute of Tunnel Technology (GFITT) at Goa especially for assimilation and dissemination of knowledge in the field of tunneling.
Arunachal Pradesh and J&K are Fastest Growing Economies
According to a new series of gross State domestic product data with 2011-12 as the base year published by the Central Statistics Office, Jammu and Kashmir and Arunachal Pradesh were the fastest expanding State economies in 2015-16.
J & K and Arunachal Pradesh also reported the fastest rise in per capita income in the same year. Arunachal Pradesh’s gross State domestic product (GSDP) expanded 16.5% and that of Jammu and Kashmir 14.7% at constant 2011-12 prices.
CSIR Ranked 9th Public Research Institution of the World
CSIR (Council of Scientific and Industrial Research), Country’s largest autonomous pubilc organisation has been ranked ninth in the world. There were total of 1207 govenment institutions was considered in the survey of the Scimago Institutions ranking World Report 2017.
CSIR is the only Indian institute to secure a rank in top 100 Global Institutions. Chinese Academy of Sciences has topped the chart.
Rajiv Kumar Takes Charge as NITI Aayog Vice-Chairman
Noted Economist Rajiv Kumar has taken the charge as Vice-Chirman of government think Tank NITI Aayog. Mr Rajiv Kumar replaced Arvind Panagariya, An Indian-American economist who resigned from the post yesterday to return to academia.
Mr Kumar was a senior fellow at the Centre for Policy Research (CPR). He holds a DPhil in economics from Oxford and a PhD from Lucknow University.
