Sankara Narayanan Takes Charge as MD & CEO of Vijaya Bank
Mr R A Sankara Narayanan has taken charge as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Vijaya Bank. He took charge from Dr Kishore Sansi, who reached superannuation on August 31.
President Kovind Lays Foundation Stone of SAUNI Yojana
President Kovind laid the foundation stone of the second phase of link Fourth pipeline canal of Saurashtra Narmada Avtaran Irrigation (SAUNI) Yojana in Rajkot, Gujarat.
The project is aimed at bringing the waters of Narmada River to the reservoirs of parched Saurashtra region. President Kovind was on a two- day visit to Gujarat.
PM Narendra Modi Leaves For Myanmar For First Bilateral Visit
Prime Minister Narendra Modi left for Nay Pyi Taw for his first bilateral visit to Myanmar with an aim of charting a roadmap for closer cooperation between the two countries in areas like security and counter-terrorism.
“I thank the Chinese government and people for their warm hospitality during the BRICS Summit. Leaving for Myanmar for a bilateral visit,” PM Modi tweeted.
Union Health Ministry Launched Two New Contraceptives
The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare launched two new contraceptives- an injectable contraceptive MPA under the ‘Antara’ program and a contraceptive pill ‘Chhaya’ in the public health system to expand the basket of contraceptive choices for couples.
These contraceptives have been launched in 10 states including Delhi, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Haryana, West Bengal, Odisha and Goa will be available at hospitals and medical colleges. The ‘Antara’ injectable is effective for three months and the ‘Chayya’ pill is effective for one week.
Peggy Whitson Returns to Earth After 288 Days
Astronaut Peggy Whitson returned to Earth, finishing a 288-day mission. Peggy Whitson becomes the American who has spent the most cumulative amount of time in space.
Peggy Whitson, 57, is also the oldest female astronaut in the history of space exploration, was the first female International Space Station commander, and holds the record for number of spacewalks by a woman.

Olympic silver medalist Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore becomes the first Olympin to appointed as Youth Affairs and Sports Minister. Until now, Rathore was serving as the Minister of State for Information 7 Broadcasting.
Tamilnad Mercantile Bank Appoints New MD & CEO
Mr. KV Rama Moorthy has been appointed as new Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Operator (CEO) of Tamilnad Mercantile Bank. Mr. Moorthy was Executive Director of United Bank of India before joining the TMB. He succeeds HS Upendra Kamath. Rama Moorthy’s appointment is for a period of three years.

Karnataka Government Launches Unified Health Scheme ‘Arogya Bhagya’
Karnatakak government has launched ‘Arogya Bhagya’ a Universal Health Coverage (UHC) scheme, merging seven health schemes of the state, covering 14 million households of the state.
The main theme of the ‘Arogya Bhagya’ scheme is ”Treatment First and Payment Next”. All the health facilities will be provided through Aadhar linked Universal Health Card. The card holder get treatment in all the empaneled private hospitals besides government hospitals to get treatment without paying any cash.
Karnataka Bank Bags IDRBT Award
Karnataka Bank has bagged the ‘best bank’ award among small banks for the use of technology for financial inclusion at the 13th IDRBT Banking Technology Excellence Awards 2016-17.
Sudarshan Sen, Executive Director of RBI handed over the award to Mahabaleshwara MS, MD and CEO of the bank in Hyderabad.
